Dussehra -: Festival celebrating victory of good over evil

Ramlila is a dramatic folk re-enactment of the life of Lord Ram, ending up in ten-day battle between Lord Ram and Ravan, as described in the Hindu religious epic, the Ramayana. Vijayadashami also known as Dussehra is one of the most important festivals celebrated in various forms across India, Nepal and Bangladesh. Dussehra is derived from Sanskrit Dasha-hara meaning "remover of bad fate", which thereby involves removal of ten heads of Ravana.Dussehra is celebrated on the tenth day of the Hindu autumn lunar month of Ashvin, which falls in September or October of the Western calendar, or the tenth day of Ashvin. The first nine days are celebrated as Maha Navratri and culminates on the tenth day as Dussehra. The day marks the victory of Goddess Durga over such demons as Shumbh and Nishumbh. It is a day when devotees worship Goddess Shakti. Shakti represents strength, ability and courage. This day also celebrates the victory of Lord Rama over the demon king Ravana. Navaratri this year is all set to get bigger and better, with the Luv Kush Ramlila committee planning to have many popular faces from the film and television industry to be welcomed as their guests. The committee, which has been organizing Ramlila at the Red Fort, has invited Deepika Padukone, Akshay Kumar and Ranveer Singh, this year. Arjun Kumar, the secretary of Luv Kush Ramlila, told us, “Rati Agnihotri will be present on October 6, and on October 8, we will have Junior Mehmood. Hema Malini and Shailesh Lodha will attend the Ramlila on October 10 and 11, respectively.

Deepika and Ranveer will be making an appearance on October 12 and Akshay Kumar will be there on October 13.”While Hema Malini had rocked the stage with her performance last year, this year she will only be going there only as a guest. According to Arjun Kumar, the sole purpose behind inviting celebs is to attract youngsters to watch the Ramlila. He further added, “The presence of celebs helps attract youngsters and this will at least get them to watch the Ramlila for some time.
