Aamir Khan's Talaash has the biggest opening for a film releasing on a non-holiday Friday.Aamir Khan's Talaash might have not been hugely promoted like its contemporaries but the film managed a huge opening at the box-office. Aamir Khan's Midas touch is such that the film enjoyed a mind-blowing opening despite releasing on a non-holiday Friday. Most actors plan their release on a holiday Friday or in the festive season (Eid, Diwali, Christmas). A holiday season generally adds to the box office but Aamir Khan's film's business defies all logic and science.
The first weekend collection of Talaash is Rs. 48.99 crores (net) over its opening weekend (Day-wise breakup - Friday: 14.52 cr, Saturday: 16.37 cr, Sunday: 18.1 cr). To give a comparative perspective, the opening weekend figures for films that released on a non-holiday Friday this year are - Bol Bachchan: 11.75 cr, Cocktail: 10.75 cr, Raaz 3: 10.50 cr, Barfi: 8.5 crs. But Talaash has beaten them all by leaps and bounds.
Even in the overseas territory, the film is a huge success. The figures for major foreign territories are as follows
North America: Friday - $ 657, 000; Saturday - $ 734, 000
UK: Friday - 107, 000 Pounds; Saturday - 152, 000 Pounds
Middle East: Thursday - $ 310, 000; Friday - $ 442, 000; Saturday - $ 350, 000
The film made on a budget of Rs 40 crores has already recovered its cost through satellite rights that was sold at Rs 40 crores.
