The construction of this temple took around 6 years though it was opened for the public in 1986.
The structure of the temple is derived from the Lotus, the national flower of India as the Lotus has been a significant part of the Hindu religion too.

Lotus temple is shaped in the form of a half opened Lotus Flower and the main structure encircled by nine ponds. There are nine doors which leads to the central hall and number nine is considered sacred in Bahai faith, which despite all the major nine faiths of the World.The marvelous structure of the temple comprises 27 self-supporting marble clad "petals" that are arranged in groups of three to form nine faces.Lotus temple of Delhi is one of the prominent temples which have been selected fro publishing the book with colored beautiful pictures of each corner. Its praise has reached to all over the world and thats why the numbers of visitors are increasing considerably just to gat a glance of it.
