Located on the banks of river Yamuna in East Delhi, Akshardham Temple or Swaminarayan Akshardham is the largest Hindu Temple Complex in the world. It is a magnificent Hindu shrine built in 2005. The complex of Akshardham temple displays centuries of traditional Indian and Hindu culture, architecture and spirituality.
Structure of Akshardham Temple
The main monument of Akshardham depicts ancient Indian vastu shastra. It is built of pink sandstone and white marble. The height of the temple is 141 feet and it is 316 feet wide. There are 234 ornate pillars and there are more than 20,000 sculptures and statues of deities. Apart from these there are eleven 720foot-high domes and decorative arches.
Other attractions of Akshardham Complex
There are 3 exhibition halls inside the complex. They are as mentioned below:
Sahajanand Darshan : At this hall the life of Swamionarayan is displayed through a robotic show.
Neelkanth Darshan : There is a huge I-Max theatre in this hall that screens movie based on the life of Lord.
Sanskruti Vihar : Here one can experience a 12-minute boat ride of India’s glorious heritage.
There is no entry fee for visitors to enter the Akshardham Temple complex. The exhibition halls and theatres are not free. For adult it is Rs.125 and for children and senior citizens it is Rs.75. The theatre has a capacity of 6,000 audiences and the temple can accommodate 25,000 people.
How to reach Akshardham Temple
Akshardham Temple is in East Delhi but it is well connected with every means of transport, including the metro railway.
