The Expenditure
Finance Committee of the Delhi government has sanctioned loan to Delhi Tourism’s
proposed Dilli Haat at Janakpuri in West Delhi. The committee, which met yesterday, has sanctioned Rs 81.44 crore for the construction of the Haat. The third Haat to come up in the capital, the Janakpuri Haat will be the most modern and greenest
Dilli Haat yet.
The Haat will come up in an area of about 10 acres allotted to Delhi Tourism by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA). Conceived to be the most modern and greenest of all such existing venues,
the Janakpuri Haat will have about 130 craft shops, an exposition hall, an auditorium, an amphitheatre, a food court, an art gallery, an information centre, coffee shops, etc. The plan also envisages landscaping of the plot for the visitors’ convenience with ample parking space for vehicles. The Haat will have full power backup facility in addition to an
electronic surveillance system for security.
A unique
cultural hub, the first
Dilli Haat was established at INA in New Delhi in 1994, and based on its popularity, Delhi Tourism established a second one at Pitampura in Northwest Delhi in 2008. Delhi Tourism is hopeful of opening the Janakpuri Haat by August 2013.
