In late 18th century, the
Madrasa Ghaziuddin, as it was then called, was as an institution for education in
literature, science and arts. Later, it came to be known as
Anglo Arabic college and then as Delhi college in 1824. In 1975, the college was renamed after
former president Zakir Husain. The college offers courses in 19 disciplines. Under the ‘faculty mentor scheme’ each student admitted to the college is attached to one faculty member who acts as his /her guide and counselor for the next three year.

Zakir Husain College: Facilities
The college library stocks nearly 1,11,500 books. The library also subscribes to 35 national and international journals and has a vast collection of electronic material for e-learning. There is a book bank, too, for needy students. The college has facilities for cricket, basketball, volleyball, chess, judo, table tennis, boxing and various athletic competitions. Besides various societies for extra-curricular activities, there is career counseling and a placement cell too. It is the only college which has started full dress convocation.
