Delhi is the second richest state in the country with the state registering per capita increase of around Rs.25,000 in 2011-12. The present per capita income stands at Rs.175,812 against 150,753 in 2010-11, said Delhi Statistical Handbook 2012 released Tuesday.The report claimed that the increase indicated that the capital had now became the second richest state in the country.“Delhi is the second richest state in the country as far as the per capita income is concerned,” Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit told reporters while releasing the handbook here.The state domestic product has increased from Rs.25.04 lakh crore in 2010-11 to Rs.29.78 lakh crore in 2011-12.
According to the handbook, the overall literacy in Delhi was 86.34 percent, with male literacy at 91.03 percent and women at 80.93 percent.Delhi has a population of over 16 million.The number of families in Delhi is 33.40 lakh out of which 68 percent families are having their own houses whereas only 29 percent are putting up in rented accommodation.In another sign of prosperity, five lakh vehicles were registered in the capital in 2011-12 taking the total number of cars on Delhi roads to over 74 lakh.According to the handbook, brought out by the directorate of economics and statistics under the Delhi government, around 98,000 people visit cinema theatres daily.
