Connaught Place, officially known as Rajeev Chowk and commonly abbreviated as CP, is the largest commercial hub of Delhi. It has several offices, business centers, shops, showrooms etc. and houses headquarters of many Indian firms.
Origin of Connaught Place
CP was also developed by British architect Edwin Lutyens in the model of New Delhi during the British Empire as a Central Business District and the construction work took four years to complete from 1929 to 1933. It was designed by Robert Tor Russell, chief architect to the Government of India. The place is named after the Duke of Connaught. Today it is the most happening and most vibrant business district in Delhi.
Structure of Connaught Place
The map of Delhi may attract your eyes with the big circle at the center. This is in fact the Connaught Place. It is designed as a big circle with radial roads spreading out in all directions as spokes on a wheel. There are 8 roads that lead out from the inner circle of the Connaught Place popularly known as Parliament Street and Radial Roads 1 to 7. To get out of the outer ring of the Connaught Place there are 12 roads. Though it is well planned, but sometimes practically it is tough to locate specific shops.

Famous spots in Connaught Place
Janpath : It is the most popular road in Delhi. It starts from the Radial Road 1 of CP that is adjacent to Palika Bazaar and it runs north-south perpendicular to Rajpath, the Rulers’ path. It was originally known as Queen’s Way.
Palika Bazaar : It is an underground market that is located in the inner circle of Connaught Place. It hosts 390 shops that sells diverse range of items. Electronic items and clothing is famous here. The bazaar (market) was set up in the late 1970s.
Kasturba Gandhi Marg It is popularly known as KG Marg and earlier it was popular as Curzon Road. KG Marg is one of the main access to Connaught Place. It starts from Hyderabad House.
