National War Memorial

The National War Memorial is a monument built by the Government of India , New Delhi, to honour the Indian Armed Forces. It is spread over 40 acres of land and is built near (the existing chhatri) India Gate. The names of armed forces personnel (who gave their lives for nation)during the armed conflicts of 1947–48, 1961 (Goa),  1962 (China), 1965, 1971, 1987 (Siachen), 1987-88 (Sri Lanka), 1999 (Kargil), and other operations like Operation Rakshak, are inscribed on the memorial walls.

1 National War Memorial to be dedicated to great Heroes of nation.
It spread over 40 acres, the National War Memorial is dedicated to the soldiers by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.The project has been executed at a cost of Rs 176 crore and through global competion  it's design was selected.
2 Main structure
It has been built in the form of four chakras, each signifying different values of the armed forces, with the eternal flame and monument located in the inner-most chakra (also called Amar Chakra).
3 Obelisk
The obelisk is built  at a height of 15.5 metres and it is visible even from a distance.
4 Veerta Chakra
Surrounding obelisk is Veerta Chakra with six bronze murals depicting different battle. Each mural weighs around 600kg to  1,000kg.
5 Tyag Chakra
Tyag Chakra which surrounds veerta chakra is been made entirely of granite bricks, each bearing the name of a fallen soldier since Independence.
6 Names on walls
 Till now 25,942 names exist on these walls, there is scope to add more names.
7 Rakshak Chakra
The Rakshak Chakra — surrounds the other three and it consists of nearly 600 trees that will act as a wall and represent the soldiers who protect the country.
8 Future ceremonies
The memorial will also be the place for future ceremonies for armed forces, while the general public can pay their regards to the fallen through interactive electronic panels that will soon be set up.

9 Other features
The memorial also have other features, like artificial lighting in the evenings and a walking plaza  .
10 Param Vir Chakra awardees
Adjacent to the main complex lies a tribute to the 21 Param Vir Chakra awardees with each recipient honoured by a bronze bust enclosed by a lush green patch, complete with pathways and informative plaques on the courage they displayed during battle.
11 Entry
The entry to the National War Memorial complex is free for all, but Param Yodha Sthal and the main area will have timing restrictions and will also play host to retreat
