Turkman Gate Delhi

There are number of best historical places in Delhi and Turqman Gate is one of them. It is built in the late 1650s; Turkman Gate was the southern gate of the old walled city. It named after the pious Muslim saint; Hazrat Shah Turkman Bayabani whose tomb predates Shahjahanabad. Turkman Gate, located near the Ramlila Ground can today be reached by taking the Jawahar Lal Nehru Marg.
 
 
The saint used to reside in Delhi in the late 13th century. His tomb was built way before Shahjahanabad was even conceived. Southeast, close to some pre-Shahjahan remains this got enclosed within the walls, including the tomb of Hazrt Shah Turkman Bayabani.
This gate like the other gates of Shahjahanabad is square in plan with high arched openings. Locally known as Turkman Gate, it is too now amidst one of the densely populated areas of the capital. Locally known as Turqman Darwaza, it is situated in one of the densely populated areas of the capital. Pay attention while you pass near it or there are chances you might miss it completely.

Location: Old Delhi near Ramlila Ground

How to Reach: Take an auto or cab or disembark at Chandini Chowk Metro station
 

Timing: Open on all days from sunrise to sunset.
